You Attack My Size 0, But I Can’t Attack Your Size 16

“No, I don’t starve myself. I’m naturally skinny and probably eat more than you.” -Anonymous

Why are you allowed to say I’m too skinny when I’ll be publicly torn apart for saying you’re too fat? This has been a topic of discussion that I’ve been seeing everywhere lately.

The god-awful phrase “real woman” makes me grit my teeth with true anger. Apparently, only women who are a size 8 and above are real women.

I don’t know who died and made these standards but please, let me know. Now I know what people are thinking as they read this, that size 0-2 are the general beauty standards, which is slowly fading.

Yet when was it okay to pick apart a young girl or a woman saying that she needs to eat a cheeseburger? Since when has it become socially acceptable to bully one size but when it’s done in reverse to a size 16 everyone is in an uproar?

Lizzo, Ariana, Billie, Taylor and Beyonce… but we think it’s Lizzo’s year.  She is also nominated for best R&B performance for Exactly How I Feel with Gucci Mane. Body Positive Movement

In the latest Rolling Stone, Lizzo graces the cover with confidence and positivity. The interview details her long hard road that finally got her to be the body positive babe she is today. She did so, by coming to terms with body dysmorphia (body image obsessed) and low self esteem, through the body positive movement.

Beyond body image, her work, speaks for itself and she simply states that she is “not a trend”. It’s Lizzo’s Year! And her hope is that her music helps others “discover self-love”.

Lizzo Overcame Tough Times

After her father past away, she, at 21, lived in her car for a year as she tried to break into the music industry.

Flute Player

Lizzo plays the flute. And very well, as she is classically trained.

Volunteer

On her recent Australia dates, she took the time to address the bushfires and volunteered to help the victims. Here are ways you can help the victims of the Australia bushfires.

Stardom

While at 31, Lizzo may seem to have appeared in full force onto the mainstream music scene last year, she has been recording music for over five years.

Self-Care Queen

Self proclaimed self-care queen, Lizzo is living her best life and we all want to be right there with her.

Influenced by Lizzo

While we agree that Lizzo is not a trend, we think it’s Lizzo’s year. And we do think she is an excellent influencer for all of us to seize the moment and appreciate our own bodies. Moreover, to care for the planet that sustains us and provides for us, is the ultimate form of gratitude.

Grammy Performance

In addition to her nominations, Lizzo will be performing at this Sundays’ 63rd Annual Grammy Awards. We cannot wait to cheer her on!

So good luck Lizzo, thank you for the music and the body positivity, we will be watching!
