19 Things You Know If You Grew Up As a Theatre Kid

You were the luckiest kid in the world because you got to pretend to be someone else and no one called you crazy for it.

  8. Showmances – AKA the relationships as a result of the show – were unlikely to last, but always happened anyway.

  9. If you ever tried to date someone who didn’t also do theatre, you rarely saw them.

  10. Being homophobic or racist or anything that involves discrimination is literally unfathomable to you because you grew up around such a diverse group of people.

  11. Tech Week is Hell Week, no questions asked.

  12. Your first dress rehearsal will always be terrible, even if the musical show ends up great.

22 Things You’ll Only Understand If Music Is Your Life

Honestly, putting your love for music into words can be hard. It’s not really something that language alone can cover. But if there’s anything all die-hard music lovers might be able to relate to, it’s the following:

  1. You could literally spend hours switching from song to song just to find the right one. Even if it takes you days.
  2. Music A.D.H.D should definitely be an official term and you definitely suffer from it.
  3. When you find a new band or singer you like, they’re all you listen to for each day and night until you get sick of them.
  4. You’ve ended up in some pretty weird sections of YouTube before.
  5. You somehow know about a bunch of bands and artists no one’s ever heard of before, yet you’re not an annoying music snob.
  6. Forgetting to bring your headphones ANYWHERE is the biggest tragedy that could ever occur to you.
  7. Every occasion needs music: songs for when you’re at the gym, a playlist for your morning commute, and a tune for when you’re in the bathroom.
  8. You wish you had your own theme song.
  9. Half the reason you even watch some shows is for the music.
  10. There’s nothing like a good album to chill you out after a crappy day.
  11. You go through headphones like underwear.
  12. You sometimes wonder if you’re being rude when you refuse to take out your headphones when you’re out on the street. But, like, there’s no way you’re gonna not listen to music.
  13. And let’s not even talk about the hour it takes you to detangle their knots.
  14. You have immense respect for the musicians out there who do what they do.
  15. There are few things better in life than the moment you discover that perfect sound.
  16. Car music. Enough said.
  17. You’re officially and unofficially the designated DJ of your squad.
  18. You feel honored when they ask you to create the playlist for their birthday parties.
  19. When you meet someone with the same taste in music as you, they become your soulmate automatically.
  20. You think about albums and artists you have to introduce your kids to. It’s a serious education.
  21. Turn the volume down? What do you mean “turn the volume down?”
  22. Music = life. Music for health
