5 Beauty Hacks Every Makeup Lover Needs to Know

I’ve had my Makeup Artist and Airbrushing certification for almost five years now, and from someone who knows a thing or two about makeup, there are simple hacks that everyone can do, no matter if you’re an expert or novice.

1. Shattered powder palettes

This has happened to every makeup lover at one point or another. Your new, expensive palette got smashed through TSA, your pet thought it would be fun to knock it off the counter, or maybe you just have butterfingers. Whatever the case may be, there is an easy fix to make that palette good as new. Take a few drops of rubbing alcohol and mix it into the broken powder with a toothpick. Make sure it comes to a paste-like consistency and then let it harden overnight. Good as new!

2. Dried up mascara

We’ve all been there… You use your very favorite mascara until it starts crumbling. And let’s be honest: mascara is expensive. Bring life back to your tube with a few drops of eye drops! It can be whatever brand you want, so grab some from your local drugstore or megastore and add it in. Your mascara will be back to its glory in no time.

3. The long-lasting lip

From someone whose pet peeve is lip color that lasts no longer than 30 minutes, there are some tips I’ve learned along the way that help that gorgeous color stick around. Apply a touch of chapstick, Vaseline, or carrier oil before adding your lip color for a moisturized base that will keep that color looking as bright as the moment you put it on.

4. Brightening liner

For the days when you just can’t ditch those Chanel bags under your eyes, white eyeliner will act as a brightener. White eyeliner also makes the eyes appear bigger, so tightline your bottom waterline with a pigmented pencil liner for that instant anti-sleep deprivation look. White liner on your eyelid will also add a fun twist to your makeup in just a few seconds.

5. The foundation test

We’ve all seen the infamous way to test foundation: the wrist. However, did you know your wrist is a different shade than your face? In order to find that shade that really matches your skin tone, drag a drop of foundation from your jawline to the middle of your neck. From there, find the shade that matches, and you’re good to go.

No matter how you do your makeup, there are always hacks to help you get the ideal look you’re going for or to help get rid of those pesky makeup problems that happen to the best of us. Follow for more tips, tricks, and hacks of the best world there is – the beauty world.

What Is The Difference Between Organic and Synthetic Skincare

The Difference Between Organic and Synthetic Skincare

It’s not easy being a consumer in the crowded, confusing skincare space.  With tens of thousands of global brands clamoring for market share, oftentimes outrageous claims are being made by companies who prefer to think about their profitability instead of their customers skin care needs.  One part of the industry our customers get very confused about is the difference between organic and synthetic skin care products.

As a company that was founded on products using imported peptides from overseas research partners, the vast majority of SkinPro products are synthetic.  These products incorporate laboratory-derived ingredients that are often chemical copies of natural ingredients.  The major advantage of using synthetic ingredients is the ability to compound ingredients together and blend them into a formula.  Much like certain ingredients work well together in the kitchen, the same can be said for laboratory-made synthetic ingredients that work together synergistically to provide a better overall result for the end-user.

Natural Skincare

On the other hand, natural skincare products aren’t defined very well in the industry. Which is perhaps why there is so much confusion.  “Natural” means many different things to different people.  The term gets misused often when a manufacturer creates a product that has for example “blue chamomile” in it.  The blue chamomile is a naturally derived ingredient, but does that make the product natural?

It comes down to what it’s compounded with and blended with.  Often, a brand will mislabel their products as natural when in fact, the blend a naturally derived ingredient into a formula that has synthetic ingredients.  This is a huge problem that could result in penalties if they are caught by authorities.

The only products that are 100% USDA Certified organic will have this label on the actual product.  SkinPro makes one organic eye serum that fits the bill to this, and it was a process submitting the ingredient deck, complete with actives, to the USDA for final approval.  Once they reviewed this and put their stamp of approval on it, we were able to officially market the products as 100% organic, and also vegan.

Get Your Glow On: Tips For Radiating Skin

Having healthy glowing skin can improve your confidence 10 fold. If you think about, skin is what people look at when they are talking to you and you don’t typically talk from across the room – it’s up close and personal.

Skin is also a reflection on what’s going on internally with your health and lifestyle. To make your skin naturally glow it may take making some lifestyle changes, but it will be worth it in the long run for your health and your pretty face.

Here are some recommendations from the experts on getting that natural glow:

Stop smoking

You can look at someone who has smoked for years and see the noticeable effects. Grey skin tone, dryness, wrinkles and premature aging. It’s obvious what smoking does to your health and skin – so quit smoking now.

Get friendly with coconuts

In tropical cultures coconut are used in abundance. We also associate those cultures with having that beautiful glow. Is it a coincidence? I think not. Coconut oil is actually a natural mild SPF and eating it permeates the skin from the inside out, giving that moisturized appearance. Drinking coconut water also provides the skin with vital nutrients and electrolytes. New York City dermatologist Dennis Gross, MD., even said, “Whenever I can use a natural ingredient that truly improves the skin, it’s in my products. Coconut oil is a great moisturizer.”

Go all natural

There are a ton of organic skincare lines out on the market that are way better than then the mainstream chemical ones. When it comes to skincare – less is more. You can even make your own skincare products at home with a few ingredients that you may already have in your pantry. Check out this article on how.

Diet, diet, diet

There’s almost nothing worse for you skin than a poor diet. Things like processed foods, preservatives and additives can wreak havoc on your flesh. Stay clear of too much sugar and salt. Instead, opt for fresh organic produce right off the tree or from the ground. Make sure you are getting adequate amounts of healthy oils like extra virgin coconut and olive oil and downing foods high in omega 3’s like avocados and nuts. There’s simply no better skin care routine than eating right.

Inverted poses and regular exercise

Exercise equals increased blood flow and oxygen to the cells – essentially healing and regenerating your skin. Many yogis report inverted poses such as handstands and downward dog also increases blood flow to the face, giving a natural blush of sorts as well. Any pose where your head is below you heart can improve brain function as well as get your skin to glow totally naturally.

Use Rose hip seed oil

This oil is a natural retinol alternative that effectively reduces scars, UV damage, deep wrinkles, burns, premature aging, acne and many other skin disorders. It was also reported in a study that rose hip oil brought back a healthier tone to the skin – giving you that natural glow. Try Aura Cacia’s Rose Hip Seed Oil for a natural glow. And look to our full essential oils guide as a resource

Get into nature

There’s a lot of fear surrounding sun exposure that’s totally uncalled for. If you have an effective SPF, the sun can do wondrous things for our overall health and well-being. Spending time in nature also means being close to the elements. If you are near trees; you receive the benefit of fresh oxygen to your lungs and cells. If you take a dip in the ocean; the natural salts are said to heal and draw out impurities. Many facial masques are made of mud and clay and are the best for battling oily skin, impurities and acne. Even driving your feet into the dirt is used as a way to absorb mineral compounds into the epidermis, improving your health.

It’s really simple, the recipe for glowing skin is the same prescription for overall health – eat right, get into nature, drop bad habits, exercise, and go natural when it comes to what you put in and on your body. Easy peazy lemon squeezy!
