Summer Lovin’: 9 Ways To Treat Yourself This Summer

The cocktails are chilling, our tan lines are showing, and the beach is in our near future. We’re already deep into the summer but it’s only July.

There’s something in the air that makes you smile a little more, makes you want to love a little more, and makes your laugh last longer.

Summer is when we fall in love with everything, get out of our comfort zones, take bigger risks than we normally would, and live life fuller.

What we can’t forget about during these summer months, however, is to treat ourselves. We’re halfway through the year and it’s about time we give in a little.

So, while you’re going on adventures, getting a tan, and drinking rose from dawn to dusk… be kind to yourself in one of these nine ways (or all of them):

  • Chill out with a popsicle. What is summer without a fruity popsicle? Whether you’re on the water, in the park, or cooling down with the A/C at home, let yourself enjoy summer’s ideal treat.
  • Pamper your skin after the sun. You’re bound to have gotten and will continue to get some sun this summer. Give your skin some love with a new moisturizer, and make sure you’re always wearing SPF, even if you’re not going to tan.
  • Indulge in a good book. There are books for every occasion whether you’re on a plane, train, or on a boat this summer. No matter where you are, any place is a good place to get lost in a good book.
  • Take a long weekend. Take advantage if you have Summer Fridays, and take off Friday if you don’t. Go visit a friend, go to the beach, or take a weekend trip to Europe. Summer is meant for adventure and it’s only a weekend away.
  • Get the perfect bathing suit. You’ve been working hard for this, so get just the right fit. Whether it’s a sexy one piece, a colorful two-piece, a halter or a bandeau…. Buy a bathing suit that makes you feel confident and radiant when you take off your cover-up.
  • Reset your body after a weekend of BBQ. Of course, you’re going to grill out with hot dogs and burgers – this is summer after all. But after the weekend is over, make sure to hit the reset button and get some healthy products for the week.
  • Lavish in a Mani-Pedi. It’s all about flips flops, sandals, and open-toe heels for the next few months. Make your toes stand out with bright colors and give in to a little pampering at the salon. You owe it to yourself.
  • Get crafty with your cocktails. Sure, it’s #roseallday season, but you can also spice it up a little with some refreshing cocktails. From strawberry sangria to minty watermelon cucumber margaritas… these recipes are easy to mix up.
  • Workout outdoors. Chances are it is beautiful outside. Forget the indoor gyms and hot yoga studios and don’t let the season go to waste. Take your yoga mat to the roof or look up fitness events online to join a community class.

To The Girl Doing Too Much For Everyone And Not Enough For Herself, Read This

It’s okay to admit it — being the one who everyone relies on gets hard sometimes. It doesn’t make you less amazing or less of a woman. It doesn’t make you weak. It makes you human.

We all have bad days.

It’s okay to accept them for what they are though: just a bad day. Not every day is bad. It’s not a bad life. You are no less because you had a bad day. Pick yourself up, brush yourself off, and move forward. You’ve got this.

We are all fighting a different battle, facing our own challenges, and struggling with different things but we all have one thing in common. We have hopes, dreams, goals, and aspirations and we’re going to keep going until we reach them. And we have too many people relying on us to fail.

Maybe you chose the journey you’re on, or maybe life happened and this is how it played out.

Either way, it’s here now and you’re doing it. You’ve come too far to stop now and there are too many people relying on you.

I know the feeling of wanting to quit…of wanting to crawl under a rock, to hide so no one can find me and ask me for anything else. I know the feeling of not having any more of yourself to give and yet someone else is asking for a piece of you.

Everyone wants a piece of you and no one gets how thin you’re already spread.

When you have those moments remember there are others in your shoes. We’re here. We’re fighting the same battles. We’re exhausted. We’re moody.

We want to quit just like you, but we won’t because we’ve come too far to give up now and too many people are relying on us.

When you want to break down, go ahead. Go ahead and cry.

Go ahead and take that nap. Go for a run. Read a book. Do whatever you need to do to be the best you possible.

I know you feel selfish. I know you feel like you should just be able to keep going. In reality, though, you’re human and sometimes you need a break and that’s okay. We can’t always be superwoman.

No matter where you are in this journey of life someone sees you.

Someone knows how hard you’re working. And there’s a whole army of us out here doing it with you. Look around and you’ll see you’re not alone. And next time you feel like giving up know we’re there with you but you just have to keep going.

There’s a light at the end of the tunnel and as long as you keep moving, no matter how slow, you will make it.

As I’m sure most employees can agree, the work week always seems to drag on just a little too long…or a lot too long. For me, a little retail therapy works wonders and motivation can arrive in the smallest of Amazon Prime packages.
