Want to figure out the soul nature of a current relationship? Find out here!

I do intuitive work. One of the most asked questions is: Is this person my soul mate?

The second most popular query is: How do I attract my soul mate?

I hate to break it to you, but the age-old concept of “having a single soul mate” is antiquated.

You actually have a lot of soul mates, and most aren’t romantic. Your child, friend, cousin, or co-worker might be a soul mate. Even your pet can be a soul mate.

Sure, you might be mated with a soul mate, but the truth is that there are several different types of soul relationships. Figuring out how to negotiate a relationship—or match with a true-blue, forever mate—is dependent on understanding these differences.

After I review the nature of soul relationships in general, I’ll outline the major soul relationships as described in my newest book, Advanced Chakra Healing. Then I’ll provide a short exercise you can take to label and best embrace a relationship you’re already in.

Soul relationships recognize that we each have a soul. That’s the part of you here on this earth to gather experiences and learn about love. Souls are grouped into soul families, which are based on spiritual purpose, lesson plans, and insights already attained about love.

These categories work the same way that they do regular family and extended friend groups. You have a lot in common with some set of individuals and not with others. You’ll like some members and not others. A few friend-types, you might be cool to marry. Others? Heaven, spare me, you think. Why would spiritual matters be any different?

Following is a list of the various versions of soul relationships. As you read through this outline, pay attention to your Ahas! That’s a great start to getting the most out of your various relationships.

Soul Mates: Souls that share similar qualities, experiences, or spiritual goals. You have probably participated in several past lives with soul mates.

Companion Souls: Souls that assist each other in meeting life tasks. Some companion souls become life mates, lifelong friends, or even trustworthy business partners. They might also be members of the same biological or adopted family. These are typically positive and friendly relationships.

Causal Souls: These help you become more solid in your life, requesting that you clean up your side of the street. However, they are totally difficult, like the proverbial and troublesome in-laws, difficult marriages, or challenging parenting relationships.

Cosmic Souls: These carry a high sexual charge and, paradoxically, lead to an examination of your spiritual purpose. The explosion of sexual energy often activates your kundalini, a divine life energy that cleanses issues and enables enlightenment. These relationships play havoc, especially if you’re already romantically committed to someone else.

Twin Flame: This is your seeming double. You complement each other. Twin flames often try to become life partners, believing that the other person is their “other half.” That statement isn’t true; we are here to become complete beings, not halves of a whole.

Now it’s time to figure out what a particular relationship might be!

  • Connected, easy, like you’ve known each other forever. You’re on the “same path.”
  • Trustworthy, friendly, and positive. You get things done together.
  • Hard, disturbing, and irritating. You rub each other the wrong way but are forced together.
  • Vavoom! It’s all about passion and sexual charge. Is this your soul mate? (No.)
  • Similar, two peas in a pod, complementary. Like halves of a whole.

Answer Key

What type of soul relationship might you be in? Read through the line that matches the number you picked in the Quiz and consider the advice.

  • Soul mate. It’s safe to be yourself and share your heart. Enjoy all levels of the relationship.
  • Companion soul. You can trust each other. Look to partner on anything from vacations to projects—and maybe even as mates!
  • Causal soul. Though challenging, you are teaching each other. Learn your lesson, and the relationship will get easier or end.
  • Cosmic relationship. The attraction will burn out, so be wary. Go otherworldly, not physical. It’s time for both of you to seek things spirit.
  • Twin flame. You seem identical but aren’t. See yourself in the other and further develop those traits. Then you can become friends or move on.

And remember, the penultimate to any relationship is love. Enjoy the love that is present and make decisions accordingly.

How You Know You’ve Met Your Twin Flame

The twin flame, also called the mirror soul, is one of the most unique types of connections someone can find. Meeting your twin flame is like meeting another part of your soul. This is based on the idea that one soul can be split into two bodies, which makes meeting your twin flame overwhelmingly special and sometimes a little scary.

I’ve met my twin flame. Prior to it, I didn’t really believe in anything more than a relationship soul mate and a friend soul mate. The thought of the same soul in different people seemed a little unrealistic. When I really think about it logically, it still doesn’t really make sense. But, after finding my twin flame, I can say that that kind of connection is 100% real. Here’s how I knew, and how you can know, too.

You’ll feel like you’re home.

This is usually a feeling you develop over time, the more you feel comfortable with the person. But, with your twin flame, you’ll be able to look at them and know that you’re exactly where you’re supposed to be in that moment – and that’s with them.

You’ll feel overwhelmingly comfortable.

What would take weeks or even months of “getting-to-know-you’s” is diminished and you’ll find that there’s an instant comfortability that can only be achieved by being connected on a different level. Since you’re part of the same soul, you already know each other, in a way.

You’ll have insane similarities.

My twin flame and I have the same hobbies, personality traits, senses of humor, career goals… We have the same ways of dealing with conflict, trying to understand others, and letting feelings dictate how we live our lives. It’s truly like looking in a mirror.

You’ll complement each other.

Your personalities will go hand-in-hand perfectly. You’ll understand each others’ senses of humor instantly. The way you work through problems and find solutions will help each other immensely since you’re already on the same wavelength.

You’ll keep coming back to each other.

Like two magnets, the connection you have will always bring you back together over and over and over again. Whether it’s for short periods or long lengths, you’ll pop in and out of each others’ lives exactly when you need them. And, the times you are apart, you can rest assured knowing that there’s another part of you out there in the universe, and you’ve found them.

You’ll be able to read each others’ minds and feelings.

Like a supernatural feeling, you’ll be able to look at your twin flame and know exactly what they’re feeling and why – probably because you’re feeling the same thing, too. With other people that aren’t your twin flame, that ability can take a long time. But, with your twin flame, the feeling and understanding are already there.

The whole idea of finding a twin flame doesn’t make sense until it’s happened to you. You may sound crazy to other people when you try to describe it, and that’s understandable. Unless you’ve met your mirror soul or twin flame, it’s impossible to understand. But, if you have found your twin flame, you know what it’s like to meet another part of yourself – the same soul, just in a different person. It’s a little spooky and definitely confusing, but the feeling is unmatched.

The 3 Main Types of Soul Mates

The romantic soul mate, the friend soul mate, and the twin flame.

There’s a lot of controversy as to if soul mates are real. In my opinion, I believe that they are. But, I also believe that there is more than one kind of soul mate – there are three. Some people believe in more types. But, personally, I think that there are three individuals out there that match you on some sort of elevated level.

1. The Romantic Soul Mate

This type of soul mate is the most commonly thought of – the person who you romantically and emotionally can’t stand to live without. Usually, your attraction to this individual is undeniable and you quickly realize that there’s no one else in the world that will fit you better. You know that whatever you do, you can’t do it without them by your side.

I believe that if you find your romantic soul mate but the timing is wrong, they’ll come back around.

I haven’t met my romantic soul mate, but I know they’re out there. People around me have met and ended up with theirs, and it gives me reassurance to know that they do exist. The person you end up with long-term, maybe raise children with, travel with, live with, experience life with… The person that will always find a way back to you because there’s no one else in the world that makes sense.

2. The Friend Soul Mate

Also called the Companion Soul Mate, this connection is like finding one person in the whole world that understands you and accepts you on a whole other level. This connection is usually strictly platonic. However, elements can be found in a romantic soul mate, as well.

This person has your back no matter what situation and usually knows you better than you know yourself.

The friend soul mate that I have knows me better than anyone, even to the point of knowing how I’m feeling about something before I even realize it, myself. We know the good, bad, and ugly parts of each other and choose to stick around because we know that if we don’t, we’ll never find another friend like each other.

3. The Twin Flame

The twin flame is, in my opinion, the most flustering. When meeting this person, it’s like meeting a part of yourself. The way you interact, the way you talk, the way you live… It feels like two parts of the same soul connecting. It’s a type of feeling that can’t really be described without maybe sounding a bit crazy to some people. But, you’ll know without a shadow of a doubt that they’re a part of you and you’re a part of them. When you’re apart, it’s like a piece of yourself is missing. And, if you do separate, you know that a part of you is left with them, and a part of them is left with you.

You are two parts of the same soul.

I recently met my twin flame and it was like looking at myself. In all honestly, I didn’t believe in twin flames or really know what it was until I spent time with mine. We have the same personality, the same interests, we understand each other on a higher level that no one else can really understand… We knew each other better than we ever could have imagined in just a few days. We can exchange a look and know exactly what the other is thinking. Just being around them makes me feel like I’m complete and safe to really be myself.

Soul mates are a very real, sometimes scary, thing. But, when you’ve found them, you’ll know – and when you do, your life will never be the same.
