Juneteenth Is Now A Federal Holiday. This IS Progress.

Juneteenth is now a federal holiday… here are my thoughts on the matter.

I would first like to applaud the law makers who have finally recognized this historic day as a national holiday, as it deserves to be.

As we go on to celebrate this new holiday let’s remember the sacrifices that where made by the African-Americans who didn’t not have their freedoms but helped build this country. Let’s celebrate those who, we’re told they where free but didn’t not receive their freedom until two years later. Let’s allow freedom to ring across this great nation. While knowing we can still do better.

Let’s make this a day to show kindness to one another. To tell people that their lives matter and that we are all the very heartbeat of this country. Let’s be reminded that we still have many things that we need to grow at. Let’s do something for the community that has done so much to build the country that we all love.

Let’s stand together united, knowing that our country has a horrible past, but vow that we will be better, and be better together as one nation. But not just for the day. No there has to be a real commitment to move forward. To put an end to the past, and put forth the effort for the future.

However, let this not be a day of sorrow but a day of remembrance. A day to celebrate the African-American community, their culture and all the beauty they bring to our country as well as countries around the world. Let us stand together and sing the hymns the slaves once sang, but let us also note how far we have come, while we acknowledge how far we still have to go.

This is just one step. Let this Juneteenth be a commitment to continue to stand and fight with our African-American brothers and sisters for the rights that they as human beings deserve. Let this be the day that we stop dehumanizing a whole race for no reason at all.

Let this Juneteenth be the day that we stop injustices, and work together to make this country better.

Let us stand together untied!

Happy Juneteenth, stat safe and keep fighting!

Renew And Restore In Faith, Unity And Optimism.

I have been very vocal about the fact that I have found hope in the new administration. Here are the hopes I have, and yes I think this administration can renew and restore unity and optimism.

United we Will Stand:

Although we have fundamental differences when it comes to policy. I do think that we can all stand United and work together for the common good of America and Americans. Joe Biden is someone who has always fought for Americans even when it means reaching across the isle to do so. What I think we have to remember is, we are all Americans at the end of the day. We are all in this together. We are all striving for a better life and the only way to get there is to learn to co-exist and work together.

The Pursuit Of Justice and Accountability

This is not something that is going to happen overnight. Nor do I believe we can have a complete reform on justice in four years. I do, however, believe that this administration will start the process. It is my great hope that one day minorities will be able to leave their house without fear. That people who act by violence will be held more accountable than a non-violent first offender criminal. It is my hope that women and men will be able to come out and say I was assaulted and be believed and taken seriously. I know these are things we are going to have to continue to fight for, but I think now we have an ally in the White House to help lead the charge.

We the People Will Have Access to Healthcare

This is such a basic human right and need is proper healthcare. It is my belief that this administration will do everything they can to see to it that every American has access to healthcare when they need it. Instead of taking it away. That we can figure it out so that yes you can keep your plan, but if you can’t afford it you have an option. I also think that this administration shows its commitment by putting comprehensive plans together to deal with the pandemic, as well as, putting more money into medical research.

Post Pandemic Life Will Be Restored

It’s been less than a week and we have already seen great strides to combat the pandemic. I’m so hopeful that one day soon I’ll be able to enjoy a night out on the town with good friends and my boyfriend. That we won’t have to think about all the great events that we have coming up with a pandemic and picking and choosing who should be there because of the restrictions. That I will be able to do my job to the fullest again. That we will get back to a normal way of life because we finally have direction coming from the top.

These are just some of the reasons why I have so much hope. There are so many more. But I have that hope knowing that this administration cannot accomplish everything that we want in the next four years. I know that it is going to take many more to come. That we are going to have to keep voting to see the changes that we want. So because of this hope I’m committed to voting for these changes in the midterms and the next presidential election

I hope that you are also ready to renew and restore optimism and faith and are committed to seeing these changes happen.

Don’t forget to vote

Inauguration Day And A New Dawn. Can We Unite?

As I have sat and watched another President on inauguration Day,, I am filled with Hope. For so many reasons. We are sending so many messages to our fellow Americans and to the world. Biden called for Americans to Unite. The question remains, can we? Can we come together and will we stand untied?

Calls For Unity

Our country has been so divided. And we saw that unfold two weeks ago. However, we watched as Joe Biden called on every American to do what they could for their neighbor and to step in the shoes of those we disagree with just for a moment. Because when we do this, we find that we are  not very different, we are the same. So let’s put down the hate and come together for the good of the country. We will not see any change or get anything done if we keep allowing hateful rhetoric to fill our minds and hearts.

Every little girl seen she can dream big:

Watching Kamala begin her time as a VP,  we cannot deny that women are breaking barriers all over the place. Sitting with my baby sister and watched our very first female and female of color be sworn in. Then I watched women who rule our entertainment industry take the stage and sing their hearts out. Finally I watched a young woman stand and recite one of the most powerful poems I have every heard. Women where ruling and slaying it! It was one of the my proudest days as a woman and as an American.

We celebrated America

As we watched entertainers across all mediums come together on Inauguration Day, I was filled with so much hope. And after a day of calling for us to come together we were able to see so many people set that example for us to move forward. I was often left in tears knowing that we matter with tributes to the health care profession and to our teaching professionals. It was clear to me that they were celebrating the people who actually keep this country running the every day. Americans who work hard to keep it all together for us.

Yesterday, for me and many others was a day of great hope and great relief. I felt heard and I felt seen. And I felt like it is the start of us moving forward. It was also a reminder that for us to continue to progress we have to keep voting. Leadership matters, and in one day my faith for our country coming together in unity was restored!

So let Inauguration Day remind us all that your vote truly is your voice.
