How to Enjoy This Winter (Activities and Tips)

After a long and warm summer, winter is almost here. It’s the time for dark nights, ultra-cold weather, and festive celebrations.

Some people – and perhaps yourself – don’t like winter due to the weather and time spent indoors. There’s no need to fret, though, as there are some activities and tips for you to try.

Hopefully, they’ll turn your winter blues into something more fun and positive.

Play online games

As mentioned, a lot of the winter is spent indoors. In the old days, this could be quite restrictive – but not anymore! Now, people have access to all the entertainment they could ever need at home. Of course, online games are near the top of the list.

In winter, there’s no greater feeling than relaxing in your living room with the fireplace turned on as you play some online games on your smartphone or laptop. Whether it’s MMORPGs online with worldwide gamers, playing shooting or survival games with friends, or casino games with other internet gambling fans or friends, enjoying your downtime in the chilly season in the evening playing games is a cozy, fun feeling.

In fact, the latter game genre (casino games) is particularly popular in winter because it’s difficult to travel to land-based casinos when it’s cold or even snowy. The next best alternative for casino fans is to enjoy their hobby at home instead. Most classics are available online nowadays across hundreds of different gambling platforms – all you need is a PC, laptop, tablet, or smartphone and an internet connection, and you’re good to have some fun at home playing classic titles.

Take casino card games, for example; these have always been fan favorites – especially poker, which players now enjoy over the internet in its slot format (but it still involves trying to get the possible hand from the five cards dealt). Imagine being tucked up all warm and cozy at your gaming station or on the couch, the snow is falling outside, and the fire is roaring. You pull up a selection of video poker games online to play and choose a couple to try out and relax into after a long day at work. Bliss!

Tip: Also, if you’re a console gamer, keep a look out for the latest console games due to be released this winter – they’re usually released before Christmas!

Remember to stock up on hot drinks

In winter, the last thing anybody should do is have cold drinks.

Instead, it’s all about warm beverages, including classics like:

·        Hot cocoa

·        Mulled cider

·        Tea and coffee

Even on the coldest and iciest of winter nights, there’s nothing that a hot drink can’t solve.

Set up your own home gym

Over recent years, there have been tons of road closures in winter, which is commonplace in the US.

Disruptions like this make it impossible to travel around as normal, whether it’s going to the work or the gym.

If you’re a bit of a fitness fanatic – or simply want a new hobby to try – then why not set up your own home gym?

Currently, 10 percent of US households have their own home gyms (McKinsey), and this figure is likely to grow in the winter. Essentially, there’s no better time than now to do it – especially if one of your new year’s resolutions will be health-related.

To make your own home gym, you’ll (ideally) need a spare room.

Or, if your attic has enough space, you can even convert that into a gym. Think of it as a fun little winter project to keep you sane during the extra cold months!

Buy extra throws and blankets

It’s no secret that the world is going through a cost-of-living crisis, as many households will be unable to pay their electricity bills this winter.

Fortunately, one of the ways you can battle against this is by buying extra throws and blankets, which you can then spread throughout your home. Make sure to add some to your living room couches and your beds, as these are the key areas!

Remember, the bigger the blankets, the better.

Spruce up your décor

Because you’ll be spending more time indoors during the winter, the décor in your house should be a key focus point.

From new wall art to a vintage lamps and clocks, there’s a variety of décor you can get hold of.

You could even head down to your local vintage or charity stores to see if you can find any décor bargains that have been donated by other people, such as old art pieces.

Read

It’s common knowledge that winter is the best time to read. During those dark nights, you can kick your feet up, grab a hot drink, and finally catch up with all those books you’ve simply not had time to read during the year.

This winter, many people will be reading eBooks using their smartphones and tablets. If you want to, though, you can stick to the old-school method of paperback books – you can’t beat them!

Go for winter walks

Despite the weather, it’s still important to get plenty of fresh air during the winter.

To do this, you first need to wrap up tight. Next, you need to put on your best winter boots with the strongest possible grip so that you don’t accidentally slip on any ice.

Scenic walks through the forest and countryside are the best during winter, so make sure to check out any spots within driving distance of where you live. Before setting off, also remember to double-check the weather forecasts so that you don’t accidentally get caught in a snowstorm.

16 Wintery Date Ideas to Get You Ready for Christmas

Winter can feel really stale with the days ending sooner and the temperatures quickly dropping.

You can feel trapped indoors with nowhere to go and nothing exciting to do.

But if you think outside the box, this does not have to be the case this winter.

Don’t let the winter blues halt your love life, use these heart-warming date ideas to get you through the cold winter:

1. Ice skating.

Starting off with the classic winter date, go ice skating together. Whether indoors or outdoors with some nice scenery, go hold hands and skate around or race each other.

2. Human bowling

A super fun and quirky alternative to ice skating is human bowling. Some ice skating rinks set up life-size bowling pins and you take turns being human bowling balls knocking down the pins!

3. Below 5 bar.

If you’re over  21 and fortunate enough to live near a Below 5 Bar, it is a place you must experience!

It is a bar where everything is made out of ice, including the bar, the sculptures, and your drink glasses.

It is literally below freezing in the bar to keep the ice intact so they give you special jackets to wear while you are in there.

4. Skiing/snowboarding.

Whether you make it a day trip or over the course of a few days, look up winter slopes and go skiing or snowboarding.

A great adrenaline rush to keep you warm and excited.

If you don’t have any previous experience, you can both learn a new sport together.

5. Winter lodge.

If you’re planning a winter weekend getaway trip, find a fun cozy lodge.

You can make it a romantic getaway with just you two or bring some of your friends along too to make it a party. You can double this up by staying near a ski resort.

6. Play in snow.

If going away is not within your budget or schedule, build snowmen, roll around, make igloo paths, and have a giant snowball fight.

7. Sledding.

Whip out your sleds and tap into your inner child.

Find a local hill with a nice slope and push each other down or race each other. It’s a great adrenaline rush and super fun with no cost.

8. Christmas tree lighting.

Whether you celebrate Christmas or just want to go for the fun of the festivities, Christmas tree lightings are exciting.

People gather around waiting for the tree lights to turn on for the season and there are performances leading up the the lighting.

There are small local ones and also huge tree lighting events such as the one held in Manhattan, New York every year.

9. House light decoration drive.

Driving around highly decorated neighborhoods at night is stunning with all the lights and colors and arrangements.

Some of the decorating people do is so breathtaking and innovative and worth the drive to see in person.

Especially houses that are nationally known to go all out on their house every holiday season.

10. Hot tub.

Being in a hot tub feels so good, especially when it’s an outdoor hot tub in the middle of winter.

The contrast of the extreme hot and cold temperatures feels amazing and you forget it’s even winter outside.

This will instantly heat you up and will make for a really snazzy time together.

11. Romantic bath.

If you don’t have access to a hot tub, get a warm bubble bath running and throw some petals on there and add some wine and music.

This will make for a really warm romantic time indoors. Treat yourselves to that long overdue bath.

12. Ice sculpture show.

Find a local ice sculpture and go, you will not be disappointed. It’s fascinating to see the art that people can make out of frozen water.

13. Cuddle and watch movies.

It’s freezing out and the sun is gone so we tend to feel sluggish.

If you two really aren’t up for even stepping foot outside, then do just that and binge watch shows or movies.

Make it extra festive if you watch holiday movies. Elf, anyone??

14. Game night.

Want to stay inside but also be active?

Make it into a game day/night. Whip out your favorite video games, board games, card games, and make up your own games.

Staying indoors doesn’t have to be boring!

15. Drinking games.

If you want to take it a step further, add drinking into the mix. Play some classic drinking games and look up new festive ones for the holidays.

Guaranteed to be a fun and warm night indoors.

16. Cook together.

Sticking with the indoors theme, cook something up together.

Make a delicious and warm dinner either together or combine both your separate dishes.

Whip out some hot chocolate with marshmallows to top it off.

The Top 7 Makeup Trends to Try This Winter

With 2021 coming to a quick close, it’s time to evaluate what makeup looks will be hot this winter. We’ve seen some trends coming back into play – specifically looks from the 80s and 90s like bright colors and dark eyeliner. So, with that being said, here are seven makeup trends that will be making a debut or a comeback for the winter that you won’t want to miss.

1. Draped Blush

Draped blush is blush that is applied from your temples down to the apples of your cheeks (the front most part). This technique is applied similarly to contour and makes your face appear slimmer.

2. Metallic Eyes

This trend is exactly what it sounds like. This winter, grab some metallic eye shadows, such as gold and silver, and apply them directly to your top lid. You can also sweep some directly underneath your bottom lashes, as well, for an elevated look.

3. Wine-Stained Lips

With the return of lip stains, the new winter lip trend is wine-stained lips. This essentially means darker red lip colors, which you can purchase at any place you buy your other makeup. The best part is, these colors can come in whatever style you’re looking for – stains, mattes, and glosses, to name a few.

4. Embellished Eyes

Another winter eye trend is embellished eyes. This can mean large glitter, rhinestones, gems, jewels… You can go as crazy or as tame on this as you want. Invest in some eye-friendly stick-on gems or jewels to add a whole other dimension to your makeup look.

5. Icy Shadow

This winter will also focus on cooler colors for eye shadows. This means lighter blues, whites, and silvers. If you want to combine some trends, purchase some light blue shadow, silver metallic shadow, and some gems for an altogether next-level, trendy look.

6. Fluffy Brows

It seems like eyebrow trends change at the drop of a hat. In the 2000s, the trend was extremely thin brows. After that, brows went from sharply angled to round to untrimmed to now fluffy. For this look, try and grow your brows out (minus the unibrow) and brush them up with an eyebrow brush. For extra hold, you can purchase clear eyebrow gel that will keep your brows looking fluffy all day long.

7. Heavy Eyeliner

This look has been back and forth through the years but has made a pretty large comeback as of recently. For this look, invest in some black, brown, and even dark purple eyeliner and line the top and bottom waterline, as well as the top lid.

Winter 2021 into 2022 will be an exciting time to think outside the box when it comes to makeup and beauty. If you’re ready to try some trends you may not normally try, go to your local makeup or drug store and see what inexpensive products you can purchase to experiment with.

The Wonder of Wonderskin’s 8-Minute Face Mask

Because who doesn’t love a new face mask?

With the winter months coming, I think we all can agree that our skin will need a little TLC. Between the cold temperatures, dry weather, and brutal wind, your skin will most likely take a beating during the season. But, that doesn’t mean that you can’t revive it. Let me present to you the IT’S A MIRACLE 8 Minute Mask from Wonderskin (brought to you by an affiliate marketing company, OAK Digital).

Now, I know what you’re thinking… What makes this different than all the other face masks on the market? Let’s start with the company.

Wonderskin is a beauty company that sells makeup and skincare products. Their ingredients stay skin-healthy and all products are designed with the condition of your skin in mind. The company chooses beauty experts and pros to develop products and formulas that are actually good for your skin.

The science behind it definitely doesn’t lie.

Wonderskin has also had its fair share of exposure. The brand has been featured in pretty high-up media sources – the Wall Street Journal, US Weekly, Today, Allure, Byrdie, and People Magazine, to name a few. Users and reviewers have raved about their products, so, naturally, I had to give it a go myself.

I was sent their beauty mask to review, and I was skeptical at first.

For a retail price of $39.50, I had some pretty high expectations. The box I received came with eight individually-wrapped packets that are the perfect size for one use – not to mention, very easy to travel with.

In the words of the website, “Picture this: tighter, smoother, more even-toned skin in minutes that stays incredible-looking for hours. It’s not a dream! It’s our IT’S A MIRACLE 8 Minute Mask for face, neck, and hands. Featuring our unique InvisiMatrix complex, this quickie treatment forms an invisible water-repellent layer on skin that lifts, tightens, and blurs so all the little things that bug you (fine lines, crepiness, spots, rough texture) are less visible for hours afterwards. Packed with vitamin C, niacinamide, and other all-star ingredients, it also improves skin’s softness and appearance over time with twice-weekly use. Each single-dose packet ensures you get a fresh, potent formula with every application.”

This mask seemingly has it all, but what does the skin say?

The mask was a white, paste-like consistency with little granules in it for exfoliation. When applying it, it instantly made my skin tingle. I have naturally sensitive skin, so really any mask will tingle for me. As it dried, I started feeling a cool sensation on my skin – and the feeling grew as I took it off. By the time it was all off of my skin, I felt like I had dunked my face in a bucket of ice water – but not in a bad way.

My skin instantly felt rejuvenated.

Here’s the bottom line: although a little pricey, this mask is good for a one-time fix – that’s even what it’s advertised as. With a majority of face masks, you need to use them for a certain amount of time before seeing results. With this 8-minute mask, the results were instant.

My only note would be that if your skin is sensitive, do a patch test beforehand.

Overall, Wonderskin really knocked it out of the park with this. Check out other products made by the company and see how you can start introducing new and improved items into your skincare routine.

Remember: taking care of your skin is not a “one size fits all” (or all of the time). Just as the seasons change, so should your skincare routine based on the conditions around you. For the winter months, consider investing in a moisturizer for drier skin. In the summer, look for a BB or CC cream that has extra SPF. Whatever you do, take good care of your skin – you’ll thank me later.

In Case You Didn’t Already Look Like A Fool During Winter Weather, You Can Now Buy Fuzzy ‘Nose Warmers’

When the cold weather rolls around, everyone knows it’s that time of year to look like a giant, poofy marshmallow every single time you leave your house. Aside from the oversized, overstuffed jackets, many of us who live in colder regions (shout out New York City where it is always brick) have to layer up with scarves, hats, gloves, and multiple shirts.

When The ‘Winter Blues’ Set In

It has started. The time change has happened, making it dark by the time you get home from work.

It is starting to get colder, which makes it so much easier to go home and curl up in a blanket than to do anything else.

As the days get shorter, you find yourself losing energy to do things.

You find yourself uninterested in things you used to enjoy.

You are feeling sad, depressed even. And you may be suffering from the Winter Blues.

I get the Winter Blues every year.

I am so tired that I sleep in. When I get off work, I grab fast food, because I have no energy to cook.

I plop down on the couch and watch TV while I eat and then go to bed super early and the cycle starts all over the next day.

I constantly feel tired. I stop wanting to socialize with my friends, but then feel lonely when unloved when I don’t hear from them.

My nights become eating, binge watching Netflix and/or reading a book.

Over the years I have been able to notice when the Winter Blues has kicked in full swing.

It is usually when I look around and see I’m surrounded by take out bags.

Or when I’m crying because I haven’t heard from a friend all week, yet I haven’t wanted to text her either.

After I am able to recognize my symptoms, I am able to do certain things that help.

Get out in the sun.

Winter Blues is a thing, because of the lack of sunlight.  So when the sun is out, take advantage of it.

Go stand outside on your lunch break and soak up some sun!

Exercise.

Exercising will boost your mood and increase your energy.  Find a workout buddy and take a class.  It is easier to skip classes if you are on your own.

But if you know you would be letting a friend down if you skipped, you are more likely to show up.

Socialize.

If you get invited to something go. Even if you don’t really feel like it. Even if you don’t stay for the entire time.

Sometimes, just getting out the house is a good start to boost your mood.

Eat Healthy.

Even though it is 100 times easier to just pick something up on the way home from work, eating healthy will help increase your energy.

When you cook yourself instead of getting take out, you will ultimately feel better about yourself.

Get help.

If you just can’t seem to get out of your funk, go see your doctor.

Seasonal depression is a real thing and can be treated.

Always remember, that the Winter Blues will pass. Spring will come, the sun will start shining and you will get back to your old self.

In the meantime, take care of yourself the best you can.

8 Things Only People Who Despise Winter Will Understand

For some, winter is a time to celebrate, but for you it’s just a three (or six) month headache.

1. You’d rather stay home than go anywhere, ever.

Staying home is the new going out for you as soon as the temperature drops below 60 degrees. A blanket, pillow, and Netflix is the only company you’ll need for the next three to four months.

2. You have a sincere hatred for people who say they’d rather be “too cold.”

You cannot stand those people who say I’d rather be too cold than too hot or You can always put more on than you can take off. No, STFU.

Yet, you must remain civil, so you stare with silent disgust while waiting for the snow to clear in the comfort of your seat.

3. You’re appalled by the amount of layers it takes to keep you warm.

You basically feel and look like the abominable snowman at all times.

4. You experience extreme sadness when packing away your summer gear.

Seriously, Lana Del Rey couldn’t even describe this depth of sadness.

5. You think of the outside as one large death trap.

You’re still pretty peeved about paying for the hospital bill that time you slipped on snow last year.

6. You’re constantly sick.

Your nose is as red as Rudolph’s, your lips are forever chapped, and all the lotion in the world couldn’t even help you hydrate your itchy dry skin.

7. You feel like sh*t most of the time.

Every day in winter is basically Doomsday for you. Nothing but the sun and a warm beach will bring a smile to your face.

8. You unintentionally gain a lot of weight.

Mashed potatoes, gravy, biscuits, butter… Comfort food. Must. Have. Comfort Food.
