9 Reasons Why Honesty Isn’t Always The Best Policy

Billy Joel once said, “Honesty is such a lonely word.??? There are reasons for that.  Honesty to some may.be the best policy but I tend t disagree.

1. No one actually wants to hear what you think. They want to hear what they want to hear.

Honesty is rare because the people who want it are even rarer. Most of the time, people just want to hear nice things, or things that are convenient.

If your girlfriend asks if she looks fat, you tell her of course not. You don’t say, “You look fat in everything. You’re fat, babe.???

2. People sometimes use honesty to indulge their diarrhea of the mouth. For example….

You’re at the office. When your boss asks you how your weekend was, the correct answer is that it was great – not, “It was okay. I’m going through this existential crisis right now where I wonder if all of life is just a hologram that we’re making up as we go.???

Not everyone needs to know everything that goes through your head.

3. Honesty or just plain mean?

Instead of letting your co-worker know her voice irks you down to your very soul, you could just smile and say…

HAYYYYY girl HAAAAAAYYYYYYYYY.

4. You’re being honest because you just can’t deal with the secret anymore.

You’ve found yourself feeling very attracted to goats lately.

Your friends don’t need to know that. A therapist should probably know that.

5. If people were honest all the time, how would anyone sell anything?

How do these ad slogans sound?

Act now! This piece of sh*t toaster will work exactly once and then will most likely set your face on fire!

These diet pills won’t help you lose any weight, but they will make you jittery as f*ck and land you in the hospital.

Not so great, eh?

6. If people were honest all the time, how would we talk to children?

How would you feel if, when you were a kid, your parents told you that your favorite pet didn’t go to a farm – instead, since you left the back door open it ran out in front of a car and died?

What if you caught your parents “wrestling??? and asked your mom about it, only to have her tell you all about intercourse?

The horror.

7. If you were completely honest, your interviews might not go so well.

So your interviewer asks you if you left anything out on your resume.

Well, there were a few months in college where you worked at a strip club. That really taught you the value of a dollar.

8. If we were honest with ourselves all the time, we’d have it a lot rougher.

What about that time you told yourself he’d call even though you slept with him on the first date, the time you swore you could do it all, or the time you told yourself that person loved you unconditionally?

Even though he never called, you couldn’t have it all, and the only person who loves you unconditionally is your mom, it was nice to have a little hope to get you through right?

9. Because the real reason isn’t acceptable.

Can you imagine if you told your friend that the real reason you’re staying in and not going to their 25th birthday is because you’re so comfy?

Or the reason you’re late to her wedding is because you were on Pinterest and lost track of time? We can’t, either.
